A bungling Colombian bank worker accidentally tossed $19,000 into the trash — sparking a frantic search for the cash at a local landfill site.

Colleagues were sent to sift through 3,000 tons of waste after the employee mistakenly discarded the money in the northern city of Bucaramanga last Monday.

El Colombiano reports that the incident was highlighted to disposal firm EMAB, but there has so far been little success in finding the missing loot.

Company direct Samuel Prada said: "We gathered the waste... and loaded it in trucks, then carried it to the compactor and finally the disposal site.

"It's about 900 tons per day. The bank reported two days later so it is very hard to find."
EMAB employees have reportedly been offered a $2,800 reward if they find the 34 million pesos in local currency.
