THE Bank of Zambia (BoZ) has warned the general public to be alert of counterfeit notes, notably in the K100 denomination bearing identical serial numbers, have now been discovered in circulation.
The BoZ Public Relations Unit disclosed this in a statement made available to Mwebantu New Media.

Following the issuance of the rebased banknotes into circulation, the Bank of Zambia has noted that certain unscrupulous individuals have taken advantage to make illegal copies of these banknotes, known as COUNTERFEIT NOTES and have released these into circulation.
The general public, however, is urged to be on the look-out for any other counterfeit notes which may appear in other denominations. The K100 counterfeit notes which have been discovered currently bear the following serial numbers;
i. FB/12 6537055;
ii. FB/12 6537056; and
iii. FB/12 6537075.
ii. FB/12 6537056; and
iii. FB/12 6537075.
The public should, in this regard, be vigilant when transacting in high value banknotes and must check for notable security features of genuine banknotes as publicised by the Bank of Zambia. Any suspicious banknotes should immediately be brought to the attention of the Police Service or the Bank of Zambia.
The Bank of Zambia wishes to assure the general public that, although the amounts of counterfeit notes discovered are insignificant, the Bank will continue to work with all Law Enforcement Agencies to ensure that these culprits face the wrath of the law.
