Brazil brewer warned over beer ice cream

BRAZILIAN advertising regulators have warned a brewer over an ad for beer-flavoured ice cream, saying it could tempt children and adolescents to drink.
The warning by the National Council for Self-Regulation focuses on an ad on the Skol brand's website and Facebook page which shows a yellow ice cream box with a lid similar to that of a beer can and the caption: "Shall we go to the bar to have an ice cream?"

The council, a non-governmental organisation created by Brazilian advertisers and companies to promote ethical practices, urges greater attention in ad campaigns to protect minors but does not call for sanctions.

Contacted by AFP, Ambev, Latin America's largest brewer and the owner of Skol, refused to comment on the warning.

Skol's beer-flavoured ice cream, launched in November, does not contain any alcohol. But since it is linked to a beer brand, it can only be sold to people over the age of 18.
