NEW YORK -- A city subway train sheared off a 50-year-old man’s leg Friday as the straphanger sat on the platform, his legs dangling over the edge, police said.
Horrified witnesses told investigators the unidentified victim squatted near the lip of the 1 train platform at the 145th St./Broadway stop at 8:19 p.m. as the South Ferry-bound subway rumbled into the station.
Paramedics rushed the victim to St. Luke’s Hospital in serious condition.
The maimed man is the 10th person injured or killed by a train in the past two weeks.
The most recent injuries occurred Monday, when two people survived suicidal leaps in front of a Manhattan-bound E train in Woodside, Queens, and a downtown 1 train respectively, officials said.
